  • Hans Schwegerle  1915 

    ∙FERDINAND∙GRAF∙VON∙ZEPPELIN∙ (Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin).  Cast bronze, light brown patina, 63.5 mm, 84.6 g.  Edge-punch CPOELLATH  —  SCHROBENH.  Vorzüglich (extremely fine), small greenish spot on reverse upper left.  Rare.

    Obverse: Three-quarter head and neck profile to right; legend upper edge; laurel garland lower edge; artist's signature H Schwegerle under neckline of bust. 

    Reverse: Over calotte of earth showing northern Europe, floats Zeppelin dirigible from right to left across center field; above, German Imperial Eagle (Reichsadler); below airship,  year-dates 1914  — 1915.

    Production records from Carl Poellath, Schrobenhausen, indicate 31 examples were cast in bronze, 6 in iron.  Commemorative medal for one year of wartime airship aviation (Hasselmann, p. 135).

    Count Zeppelin (1838 - 1917) was, of course, the developer of the airships which bear his name.
