  • Maximilan Dasio.  1913. 

    seine・maiestät・wilhelm・der・zweite・deutscher・kaiser・könig・von・preussen・anno・salut・mcmxiii (His Majesty Wilhelm the Second, German Emperor, King of Prussia in the year 1913).  Cast iron, blackened, 98 mm, 209.6 g.  Vorzüglich (extremely fine), small abrasion of blackening obverse center.

    Obverse: emperor standing frontal, in coronation cloak and crown, head to left proper, in right hand hilt of imperial sword, point on ground, in left hand imperial orb; title legend in blackletter minuscule typeface within ornamental and lined border; pearled and scalloped bands encircling figure. 

    Reverse: four pairs of men in armor or robes and carrying swords bear the enthroned, crowned and robed emperor, holding orb and scepter, on their shoulders to right; legend in blackletter minuscule typeface: mit・gott・in・treuer・einigkeit・ -- fü - r・deutsche・macht・u・herrlichkei - t・ (with god in loyal unity for German might and splendor); inscription blackletter minuscule typeface upper field: macte -- imperat・ (hail to thee emper[or]); figures encircled in pearled and lined border; artist's signature MAX・DAƧIO・PICT・OPUS in exergue; pearled edge.

    One of two medal designs for the Emperor's jubilee celebrations of 1913 officially sent by Dasio to the imperial offices to secure authorization to make copies, which was granted.  The four pairs of bearers on the reverse represent the four estates of the realm: nobility, university, city, and peasant (Weber, p. 77).
